Our story

Robert O’Shea joined the Commonwealth Department of Social Security, Employment and Health in 1974 and, during the next five years, gained invaluable experience in most welfare areas administered by the the Commonwealth Government, including the provision of aged care in nursing homes.

In 1979 Robert left the Department of Health to set up a consultancy and management advisory service for the Private Hospitals & Nursing Homes Association of Australia Ltd (now LASA – Leading Aged Services Australia). In doing this he set about trying to bridge the gap between nursing home proprietors and the Department of Health. Both sides spoke of “better resident care” but there seemed to be little else in common between those who provided the care and those who set the rules under which the industry was funded.

Towards the end of 1984, Robert O’Shea set up his own management company, RJ O’Shea Management Pty Limited. This company specialises in the provision of services to the aged care industry and amongst it’s clientele are aged care facilities and retirement villages from the charitable and private sector. The range of services provided by the company include management and consultancy, preparation of financial accounts for end of year audit, liaising with Commonwealth, State and Local Government authorities, assistance with meeting accreditation requirements, assistance with staffing issues and attendance and coordination of Board Meetings.

Following the introduction of accreditation into the aged care industry, RJ O’Shea Management has been very pro-active in working with aged care providers in meeting the 44 accreditation outcomes. Robert O’Shea has qualified as an Aged Care Assessor. The scope of his registration includes cultural specific experience, management, teaching and training skills. The company works closely with individual aged care facilities in developing their accreditation programs and provides support to staff in meeting their accreditation commitments.
The O’Shea Management Group consists of three companies; R. J. O’Shea Management Pty Ltd; O’Shea Aged Care Consulting Pty Ltd and R & M O’Shea Pty Ltd.  Depending upon which aspect of Aged Care is required, clients would enter into a contract with one of these companies which would deliver the services required.

Robert O’Shea has dedicated the last 40 years of his working life to the aged care industry. The O’Shea Management Group has the ability to assist approved providers in addressing the many and complex financial issues of the industry. Residents are entitled to a high standard of quality care and accommodation however this can only be achieved in a financially sound environment.  Together we can achieve that goal.
